The present Common Fisheries Policy

For many years the EU has been authorised to manage the fisheries activity in the North Sea. In addition, the European Commission plays an important role in the fisheries policy that applies to the North Sea. This happens within the context of the (European) Common Fisheries policy.

Europe has already developed both the policy and the legal instruments needed to protect nature in the North Sea. Now Europe is playing an important role in the development of nature protection measures that affect the North Sea fisheries.
