The Frisian Front is a Birds Directive site or SPA only. As such, it does not need to be notified to the European Commission.

The Dutch government is expected to designate this site as a Natura 2000 site in 2010. The designation order states which birds we wish to protect as well as the boundaries of the site where we intend to protect them.
